Harmon back on top after playoff win at tire-hungry Rockingham
13 Jun 2023
Thomas Harmon took advantage of a slip out of turn two by Chris Champeau with sixteen laps to go to take the lead and managed his tires well enough to hang on for the win in the second playoff race of 2023 Season 1. Champeau led a race high 47 laps and finished second, creating enough dirty air to put a halt to Kyle Crouse's late charge. Austin Collins led much of the opening half of the race but was penalized for jumping the start on one of two cautions for spins by Cori Cooke.
Harmon and Crouse are tied atop the standings heading in to the final race of the playoff round, while James Watson and Jonathon Hernandez occupy the final two transfer spots with Chris Champeau unable to attend the championship race. With only one race in the playoff round remaining, Frank Isaacson (-4) will be looking for a strong finish at Nashville next week to make the cut, while Travis Massier (-9) and Bryan Pizzichemi (-11) are long-shots to finish in the top 4.
